How to connect to Wi-Fi and fix "No internet" in Windows 11
To connect, open quick settings on the taskbar and pick your network. If you are connected but get "No internet", work through Microsoft's fixes in order, starting with the built-in troubleshooter.
Connect to Wi-Fi
- Open quick settings. Select the Network, Sound or Battery icon on the taskbar.
- Manage connections. In the Wi-Fi quick setting, select Manage Wi-Fi connections.
- Choose your network and select Connect. If it isn't listed, use the refresh button in the lower right to scan again.
- Enter the password yourself and select Next.
Fix "No internet"
Try these in order, and test after each one.
- Run the troubleshooter. Microsoft says to start with the automated Network and Internet troubleshooter in the Get Help app.
- Check Airplane mode is off in Settings, Network & Internet.
- Restart. Save your work, close your apps and restart the PC from Start.
- Restart your modem and router. Microsoft's article lists this as a step: unplug both and plug them back in.
- Forget and rejoin. In Wi-Fi settings, open Manage known networks, select your network and click Forget. Then connect again and enter the password.
- Check for a proxy. Under Settings, Network & Internet, Proxy, turn off any manual proxy settings you didn't set on purpose.
-
Reset with commands (optional). Microsoft's article gives these for an administrator Command Prompt, run in this order:
netsh winsock reset, netsh int ip reset, ipconfig /release,ipconfig /renew,ipconfig /flushdns. Type them exactly, and restart afterwards. - Check the address. Microsoft says an IP address starting 169.254 means Windows did not get an address from the router; check that DHCP is on in the router. If a cable connection works but Wi-Fi doesn't, the problem is the Wi-Fi router.
If something goes wrong
- Other devices also have no internet. The fault is likely the router or your internet provider, not your PC. Call your provider.
- Menus look different. Windows updates change them; check Microsoft's help.
Stay safe
- Use Wi-Fi you trust. On public Wi-Fi, avoid banking and entering Aadhaar or PAN details.
- Don't install "Wi-Fi fixer" programs from pop-ups. The fixes above are built into Windows.
- Don't type commands from a stranger or a message; the ones above are from Microsoft's own page.
