How to get and download a document from DigiLocker
DigiLocker is the government's document wallet. Documents from issuers (boards, universities, departments) show up in your Issued Documents after you fetch them. You sign in with your mobile number or Aadhaar and an OTP. A document appears only if its issuer has put it on DigiLocker.
Steps
-
Open DigiLocker. Type
digilocker.gov.ininto your browser yourself, or open the official DigiLocker app. Check the address ends in digilocker.gov.in. - Sign up or sign in. Use Login / Register. DigiLocker's NAD FAQ says you register with an Aadhaar number or mobile number. Type the OTP and any security PIN yourself.
- Find the document. DigiLocker's expert Q&A names the Search Document option for finding a document by issuer. For education certificates, the NAD FAQ says to open Browse Documents, go to the Education category and select your institution.
- Enter the details asked (for example a roll or licence number), give consent, and click Get Document.
- Open Issued Documents. The fetched document appears in your Issued Documents section.
- Download or share. Open the document in Issued Documents and use the download option shown there. The NAD FAQ says you can get the PDF version of your digital certificates. DigiLocker's pages do not show the exact button names to people who are not signed in, so follow the options on your screen, or check the official site.
If something goes wrong
- Document missing. DigiLocker's expert Q&A says only the authorised board or university can upload records, and for education they must be on the National Academic Depository. Ask your board or university to publish them.
- Name mismatch. The same Q&A says the name on the document must match the name on your Aadhaar, or you will not be able to fetch it.
- Support. The Q&A points to support.digilocker.gov.in to raise a ticket.
Stay safe
- Never share the OTP or your PIN with anyone.
- Use only digilocker.gov.in or the official app. Fake "DigiLocker" sites and apps ask for your Aadhaar and OTP.
- Share a document only when you chose to and with someone you trust. DigiLocker's Q&A says data is shared only with your explicit consent.
- Lookalike sites copy the official look, so check the address before you type anything.
