How to update your mobile number in Aadhaar: online or at a Seva Kendra

A step-by-step guide · Last checked: 26 Oct 2026

UIDAI's Aadhaar app lists Mobile Number Update as a service. UIDAI's app FAQ says it needs an Aadhaar app account and an OTP check. If you no longer have the old registered number, or never registered one, UIDAI says you must visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or an authorised enrolment and update centre in person.

Option 1: the Aadhaar app

You need a smartphone (Android 9.0 or later, or iOS 16.0 or later) with internet and an Aadhaar app account.

  1. Open the Aadhaar app and choose Mobile Number Update. The exact screens are inside the app, so follow what it shows.
  2. Verify the new number with an OTP. If the number on the app differs from the one registered with Aadhaar, the FAQ says to verify both numbers by OTP.
  3. Complete face authentication.
  4. Pay the prescribed charges. The FAQ gives no amount for a mobile update, so check the app.
  5. Wait. UIDAI says the processing time for mobile number and/or address updates is up to 30 days, after which the new number shows in the app.

Option 2: visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra

  1. Book an appointment (optional). UIDAI's page says booking is free, does not need a registered mobile number and allows up to 2 appointments a month. Walk-ins are also accepted, and the last token of the day is issued at 5:30 pm.
  2. Go to the centre and ask for a mobile number update. UIDAI links a Seva Kendra Locator to find the nearest one.
  3. Pay at the centre. UIDAI's fee table lists a demographic update (mobile number is one) at ₹75 when done on its own, and free when done together with a biometric update. UIDAI says the charges include applicable taxes.

What can't be done online

Stay safe

  • Never share the OTP with anyone, even someone who says they are from UIDAI.
  • Use only UIDAI's official site, ending in uidai.gov.in, and install the Aadhaar app only from the Play Store or App Store.
  • Pay only the official fee, at the centre's counter or in the app. An agent who asks for extra money is not UIDAI.
  • Lookalike sites copy the official look, so check the address before you type anything.

Pocko is not part of UIDAI and this guide is not official. UIDAI's pages differ on what can be done online, so check the official site before you travel to a centre.
